| The Visual Examination
Vision is more than just being able to read the eye chart. During an examination we also check for functional visual problems, ocular and systemic health issues as well as determining the correct prescription for glasses or contact lenses.
Vision is the most important process by which learning takes place; therefore, functional vision skills are vital. These include skills such as focusing, eye teaming, and eye movements which are evaluated as part of each exam for both children as it relates to their ability to read, and adults as it relates to their occupations and hobbies.
Oasis Vision Center provides a complete assessment of the health of the eye, which enables us to detect eye disease such as glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration, as well as systemic conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. This is performed by evaluating the internal eye structures. If caught early, many conditions are treatable before significant vision loss occurs. Therefore, to preserve the sense of sight, regular vision exams are important.
